Resources amidst Covid19

As the physical distancing continues to flatten the Covid19 curve, I've been privileged to have access to many resources (and also admittedly overwhelmed by the volume of emails). These resources have ranged from tips about how to build community online; to the history of Yellow Peril and the current framing of anti-Asian rhetoric; resources about teaching, and much much more.
Much like Twitter, retweet/resource sharing ≠ endorsement; I also understand these resources are not all-encompassing and reflect only a small snippet of the vast support we and our communities need. If you have something to recommend, please contact me  •  Content last updated April 22, 2020.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH
  • Resources from University of California San Francisco
  • Resources from Massachusetts General Hospital  (including mindfulness)
  • Directories for finding therapists of color (from Davia Robert)
  • Brené Brown's podcast "Unlocking Us" with episodes on grief and adjusting to new(er) spaces
  • Also been appreciating this Twitter thread about what people have heard from their therapists to  help make things a little easier during this time

CURRENT & HISTORICAL CONTEXT: RACIST DYNAMICS OF COVID19 & RESPONSE
  • The reporting and rise of Anti-Asian (and especially anti-Chinese) harassment
  • History of stereotyping/associating disease with Asians & the history of Yellow Peril rhetoric
  • The history of Black American being falsely considered "immune" & how that impacts Covid19 treatments / disproportionately affects Black and Latinx communities
  • Statement from Association of Asian American Studies that includes information (and the historical roots) in the problematic framing of Covid19 and historical bigotry against Asians/Asian-Americans (and especially against Chinese immigrants)

IDENTITY  |  AFFILIATION  |  CONTEXT-SPECIFIC LANDING PAGES
(Each of these sites have many more incredible resources so make sure to check them out)
  • A disability-centered response to Covid-19 (from Sins Invalid, a disability justice based performance project) with resources include podcasts, links, forms, and more
  • Resources for undocumented communities (from Informed Immigrant) which also includes information by state). There's also a great GoogleExcel but I've crashed Weebly 3+ times trying to hyperlink
  • Covid-19 resources for Asian American community (from Asian Americans Advancing Justice); fighting against anti-Asian racism and bigotry open-source syllabus
  • Remote job openings (from a crowd-sourced document; most are in tech)
  • Filing for unemployment (from the U.S. Department of Labor)
  • Resources for independent artists, freelancers, producers (primarily NYC-based but has lots of links to non-NYC as well; also some great arts-based resources to listen to and watch)
  • Supporting faculty during and after Covid (from Drs. Leslie D. Gonzalez & Kimberly A. Griffin)

RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS & TEACHERS
  • Resources for schools (which compiles companies offering free resources at this time)
  • Teaching in the Time of Corona (a Facebook group for community and resource-sharing)
  • How to make Zoom more inclusive as an instructor (from Chronicle of Higher Education)
  • Embracing that you're not good at Zoom/online teaching (from Inside Higher Ed)
  • Netflix released many of their documentaries for instructors (and the general public) to access
  • Reasons why your video calls (like Zoom) are draining (from BBC)

THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS
  • Grief in the Time of Covid19 (from Medium)
  • Why You Should Ignore All That Coronavirus-Inspired Productivity Pressure (from Chronicle of Higher Education)
  • Stop Trying to be Productive (from New York Times)
  • Don't Forget about Graduate Students (from Chronicle of Higher Education)

COMMUNITY BUILDING & FREE CLASSES (but also, read the articles above & give grace to yourself)
  • Online Games you can play virtually
  • For funsies and in case you can't utilize Zoom backgrounds, you can use Snap Camera
  • Setting up a Virtual Cafe Model (from yours truly)
  • Classes on public health and epidemiology: 5 free public health courses from Coursera
  • Classes on yoga & movement: CorePower Yoga Youtube, Fitness Blender

GREAT ARTICLES RE: COVID. The link is a spreadsheet of articles on different topic; given that there is overlap with the sections above, I made it a separate one here.

THANK YOUs  &  A NOTE ABOUT FORMAT
Resource sharing and crowd sourcing is possible because of individuals who have put in the time and labor to create emails, share Facebook posts, send links, and more. Some of these folx include UCLA's Higher Education & Organizational Chang program student representatives, the AAAS conference committee who sent out their amazing response email, amazing colleagues like Julia Karpicz, and many more.

Relatedly, the way this post is constructed (as a curation of resources) means it should actually be housed within the "Out-Sourced" webpage and not here under "Me-Sourced." However, I designed out--sourced as a static page where the content is not updated, in the ways that this page does. Like most of my website, I'll probably create a more optimal solution (later) but in the meantime, thank you for your flexibility~

This is great. I've already shared it with a handful of communities that are working to gather resources for their stakeholders. Thank you!

Writing is a craft. To sharpen mine, I read a fair amount of books, articles, excerpts, and more. At least for the books, here are some I've enjoyed.

And if you're looking to buy a book, support local bookstores, and/or buy via Bookshop.

And if you want to support the content I create on this site, you can "buy me a cup of coffee" through the button. Thank you~
